A New Role for Leighton?

Fox 2000 is finally booking its long-planned trip to Monaco.

Disney Channel star Selena Gomez is set to play one of the three lead roles in Tom Bezucha’s young femme comedy “Monte Carlo,” while a possible deal is in the works for “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester. Nicole Kidman is producing with Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan. Kidman may also play a supporting role. Bezucha, who directed “The Family Stone” for Fox 2000, is set to begin lensing in May. “Monte Carlo” will be shot in Monaco, Budapest and Paris.

Bezucha co-wrote the original script with Maria Maggenti, adapting a novel about a group of American women who ditch a disappointing no-frills holiday in Paris and pose as wealthy women vacationing in Monaco. The book, “Headhunters,” was penned by Jules Bass, known for his Rankin/Bass animated specials.

Originally, Kidman was attached to star, but the updated script — co-written by Bezucha and April Blair — has put a younger spin on the story, with two of the characters in college and one just out of high school. Gomez would play the youngest of the three.

Every studio is seeking out younger femme film properties after the boffo success of a string of female-driven films, led by the “Twilight” franchise.

“Monte Carlo” furthers the budding relationship between Fox 2000 and Gomez, who stars in the studio’s upcoming “Ramona and Beezus,” based on the bestselling kids book series by Beverly Cleary. Fox 2000 is producing with Walden Media. Greenspan and Di Novi are producers.

Gomez has primarily worked in television and is the star of Disney’s hit series “Witches of Waverly Place.” Meester has several feature projects in the works, including “The Roommate” and “Love Don’t Let Me Down,” also starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Both films will be released in the U.S. by Screen Gems. Gomez is repped by CAA and managed by Mandy Teefey and Brian Teefey; Meester, by WME and Leverage.

Writer Jessica Pressler talks to the 25-year-old Gossip Girl who everyone wants to dress.

You Know Her From: Gossip Girl. Next Projects: Movie: Date Night; And an Album out late 2010.

GLAMOUR: I’m friendly with Zuzanna, who plays Dorota, and she said you’re extremely loyal, especially to the Gossip Girl “family.”

LEIGHTON MEESTER: We’ve grown up together and we’re close. I mean, if I needed to, I would probably beat someone up for them.

GLAMOUR: Aww. Is it hard seeing yourself in tabloids?

LEIGHTON MEESTER: Just don’t go Googling yourself. But I think if you have haters, you [also] have triple the number of people who believe in you.

GLAMOUR: You enjoy fashion. Does [Gossip Girl costume designer] Eric Daman help you for events?

LEIGHTON MEESTER: Yes, I see what I like from the [runway], but it’s about mixing and matching. Daily life shouldn’t be a fashion show all the time.

GLAMOUR: As a singer, do you have an alter ego, like Beyoncé’s Sasha Fierce?

LEIGHTON MEESTER: To some extent. I’m inspired by fashion, sex, my friends. I love strong, awesome, hot women!

GLAMOUR: Will you ever want to get married?

LEIGHTON MEESTER: No. If it was important to somebody I loved, maybe I’d think about it, but I don’t think that I’m the type. It’s not for me. I believe in love, children and being a good person.

GLAMOUR: Like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell!

LEIGHTON MEESTER: Yeah, I wouldn’t mind living together. [But] eventually I’ll have to get a separate house for my shoes!

Looks like Leighton has a new movie lined up!

Leighton Meester of “Gossip Girl” will star in indie dramatic comedy “The Oranges”opposite Hugh Laurie.

Production companies are Media Rights Capital, FilmNation and Olympus Pictures. Anthony Bregman, FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Leslie Urdang of Olympus are producing. Script by Jay Reiss and Ian Helfer centers on a man’s romantic relationship with the daughter of a family friend, which turns their lives upside down. Julian Farino will direct, with shooting expected to begin in April in New York City. Catherine Keener’s also been cast.
